March 2023 – Group update
- Sport England CEO meeting AELTC week of 13th March) to discuss options for re-opening the Pool. Thank you!
- We are grateful for Sport England’s involvement here in helping to saving a vital Community Resource from ‘just being left to rot’.
- AELTC has a new chair-elect in Ms Debbie Jevans CBE. We have written to Ms Jevans to congratulate her on her appointment, to introduce ourselves and to emphasise the importance of the Pool to the community.
- Those visiting the Centre will have noticed a substantial amount of construction work in preparation for the 2023 Qualifiers.
- The Qualifiers Build is expected to begin Monday 8th May which means site closure until late July. Grass courts should be open to members from the re-open date.
- This Group’s fourth birthday will be next month! Look out for a cake on the Complex/Reception Desk!
2022
22 December 2022 – Group update
- An emotional occasion: after 114 years, the Bank of England Sports Club dissolved itself on 7 December 2022 – after receiving the 2/3rds vote required.
- Leaves us as the only group communicating accurately the Centre’s status and campaigning for Community Access.
- ==> What do you think? Is AELTC meeting its community responsibilities in line with your expectations?
- Please send your views to us at boecmg@gmail.com

- Members’ Group letter 22 November 2022

31 October 2022 – Group update
Community sports facilities availability update from AELTC chair:
- ‘Hard’ tennis courts re-opened on 5th Sept, four courts reserved for Community use, two for netball:
- Use has been light at 3 to 4 bookings per week
- Late re-opening in Mid-2020 resulted in most previous members choosing to join other, subscription-based clubs
- Earliest we are likely to see bookable grass courts will be August 2023
- Sports Hall is bookable for 5-a side soccer and also (we think) tennis and badminton.
- Squash Courts will re-open ‘as soon as possible’; correspondence continues, trying to tie down a date.
- ‘The Pool’ remains subject to a separate Campaign:
- Escalated to Parliamentary Public Accounts Committee (PAC, 31st October) to engender a sensible re-open discussion.
- PAC has received this recent photograph of the Pool, ready for use
Loss of superb cricket pitch – community sports facility that’s no longer available:
- AELTC has decided to replace the superb main cricket pitch at the Sports Centre for the purposes of constructing a ‘tennis show court’.
